French Wine Scholar (FWS)

French Wine ScholarThe French Wine Scholar ™ Program (FWS) is both a U.S. wine industry-endorsed and Wines of France-endorsed wine study and certification program. It was developed by the French Wine Society to provide current, accurate information on the wine regions of France and validate proficiency in the Wines of France. It is suitable for intermediate to advanced students of wine or serious wine enthusiasts. The program is largely self-study with guided tastings, making it an economical and time efficient way to learn about wine!

2012 Class Schedule & Details

 

  • The program will begin with a Welcome and Introductory Meeting on Date TBD.

  • There will be a 5-week self-study period for the Units of Champagne, Loire Valley, Alsace, Burgundy, and Beaujolais.

  • A Review and Tutored Tasting Session will be held on Date TBD.

  • Followed by a 4-week self-study period for the Units of Bordeaux, SW France, Rhone Valley, Provence, and Languedoc-Roussillon.

  • A Review and Tutored Tasting Session will be held on Date TBD.

  • The Exam will take place on Date TBD.

Tuition: $395 - includes 250-page, full color Course Manual, Handouts, Visual Presentations & Lectures, Wine Tasting (6-8 exceptional, hand-picked wines per night!) and the Final Exam.

Benefits: Upon successful completion, you will have the right to the post-nominal: French Wine Scholar (FWS). You also receive access to the 8-month FWS Online Study Program (a $285 value).

Exam: The exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions regarding all French wine regions. The French Wine Scholar (FWS) credential will be conferred to those individuals who achieve a score of 75 or higher on the exam.
